There are many things considered impossible in the world we live in. One of them is a conversation about premium cars without mentioning a Mercedes. There’s just no way!
Mercedes has an impressive history in the world of automotive business and this is not news. And we will remind you that the three-pointed star’s company has recorded the patent for the first automobile in 1886. Moreover, the German company is the only one for which we have heard that in the last 128 years has only dealt with the production of cars.
During all this time, Mercedes has produced millions of machines. With rare exceptions, they are known for unsurpassed quality and innovative technology.
Around 10 million of them are the luxury sedans of the E-Class. They are famous for the fact that they are preferred by important but unobtrusive people, such as successful entrepreneurs and representatives of the diplomatic corps. Million and a half of the produced E-Class vehicles have chassis number W210. Of these, several thousand are the sporty AMG versions. Only 12 thousand of them are E55 AMG and are powered by the big V8 engine. Of these, just 653 units were produced in 2001. And there are only 8 of them, which are 4Matic, all of which were made by individual order.
Besides being one of the rarest Mercedes-Benz ever, this 2001 E55 AMG 4Matic has sentimental value, being one of the last machines assembled and tuned by hand in the small factory of AMG in Affalterbach. Then the production of AMG moved to the wide circulation assembly lines of the factories of Mercedes-Benz.
This is the reason why the designers at Vilner had a very careful approach to the project of Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG 4Matic. They call it Affalterbach, but it doesn’t come from the small German town, but rather from Art Studio Vilner and it is in a single example.
It is a unique car, which not only retains its E55 AMG identity, but also develops it, just like a clever nobleman who takes care for his hereditary estate. The tuners at Vilner have preserved the class and exclusivity of the car, but have also added a touch of smoky single malt. The effect is similar to a feeling in the library where the gentlemen have cigar and after-dinner drink. Except for, three are no books and no drink.
This classicism has been achieved by the lavish use of a combination of various shades of brown and a wide range of exclusive leather. The patina leather in smoky cognac color dominates the interior and wraps all the elements that hands have contact with, including the ergonomic steering wheel. It was combined with a perforated Alcantara in more neutral colors. The result is like a feeling of being in the office of the Executive Director. However, this office is accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds.
The dynamic feeling is underscored by the V shaped elements on the front and rear seats. This is somewhat reminiscent of the 8-cylinder monster that can be heard under the hood with a simple turn of the key.
The craftsmen at Vilner have worked on small interior elements. The original wood veneer was replaced by carbon applications that were lacquered in pale brown. Sounds strange, but it looks great. The unavoidable plastic parts of the interior of an automobile, in the case of Vilner’s E55 AMG 4Matic, have received complementary brown color, so that they can perfectly fit in premium feeling that the interior creates.
As usual, the most neglected elements in a modern car’s interior, have received an extra attention. Like the coupe, the trunk of the E55 AMG 4Matic got brand new leather treatment. It continues the theme of the interior, but features one major addition. The Affalterbach emblem, embroidered on the patina leather, welcomes anyone who has decides to have a look here. There may be travel bag, hand-made from the same materials, which is a traditional compliment of the hand-craftsmen at Vilner.
