2014 DeLorean Time Machine by Team TimeCar
The DeLorean DMC-12 sports car, with its stylish gullwing doors and brushed stainless steel body, has become a big part of popular culture. The eponymous company founder John DeLorean was a successful engineer and executive at General Motors who was largely responsible for the development of the Pontiac GTO, the vehicle that defined the muscle cars of the 60s and the early 70s, and the Pontiac Firebird. He also made headlines in the early 1980s for drug trafficking charges, for which he was found not guilty due to entrapment by the FBI.
But its biggest imprint on the culture was yet to come. In 1985, the wildly successful movie Back to the Future cast a modified Delorean as a time machine. When I operated a classic car showroom in New York in the mid-1990s, we had one DMC-12 on consignment. There was nary a mention of John DeLorean's successful career with GM or his legal issues, but everyone would bring up Back to the Future.
The current replica is owned and operated by producer and entrepreneur Paul "Doc" Nigh, who runs the car in the annual Fireball Run Adventurally, a charity event that works to recover missing children. More info is available at their website.

The DeLorean Time Machine was the brain child of Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale for the movie trilogy: Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part II (1989), and Back to the Future Part III (1990). Robert and Bob wanted to make a movie about what it would be like to go back in time and meet their parents to see what they were really like.
